UPBC-Day 7

This was our last full day at UPBC. Besides hanging out around camp, there were two evening events that we were all looking forward to. The camp "theme" of the week was Narnia. Earlier in the week, it had been announced that there would be a "Voyage of the Dawn Treader" boat race this evening. The rules were that the "boat" could only be made out of cardboard and duct tape and had to hold a person, who would try to get it from point A to point B. The dads (from our group) had worked on a boat all on their own, and were excited for the "Village Voyager" (as it was named) to make it's debut. After the boat race, there would be a special Narnian dinner, where dressing up and costumes were encouraged. We of course knew about this before coming to camp, so the kids had picked out costumes, and were really excited to experience this special dinner all dressed up. This was such a fun way to end our last day at camp.

These two had fun with friendly competitions all week. It was nice that Eric had someone to indulge his competitive side.

Here is the "Village Voyager". So, the idea of this design is that a person would lay on their stomach paddle with their arms.

This is the front view. Also pictured are the arm paddles.

Asher made a couple friends that he played with regularly.

When Eric played with Eden, the rule was that he could only hit the ball with this head.

Go girl!

The only negative was that it was raining this day, but that didn't deter us from gather at the piers for the battle of the boats!

So, Trish was our brave and willing volunteer to "man" the boat for the race. She was such a good sport, even though she had no part in the actual construction of this floating device. Now, I must stress that the men were very confident in their boat. They insisted that it would hold up, and it would not sink. As a matter of fact, at one point right before the race, one of us made a comment about the possibility of Trish getting wet or falling in the water, and one of the dads said, "It won't sink!"

This is a picture if Trish trying to get on the boat before the race starts, and yes, it is sinking. The boat almost immediately started coming apart, and it was difficult for Trish to use it to swim. Poor Trish had to endure the race treading water for most of it, as she tried to make the best of the situation. The boys had to eat some humble pie to say the least.

Now that's determination!

Well, Trish, thanks for being the guys "guinea pig" on this one. Maybe next year the girls will build the boat!

Time to get ready for the Narnia dinner. There was another lady with a nice camera at the camp, and she let me try her portrait lens here. I would have loved to use it more, but it was raining outside, so I didn't want to risk any damage.

Asher was ASLAN!

Judah was PRINCE CASPIAN!

Eden was QUEEN LUCY!

And Eric and I went as Mr. and Mrs. Beaver (thanks, Lisa, for the ears!)

I just had to include a family photo of the Lewis family. Lisa did such a great job with these costumes!

I didn't get a great picture of this, but there was an actual wardrobe to walk through to the dining hall.

I couldn't get enough of this face in the lion costume.
