Texas-Day 3

This was our last day in Texas. We left San Antonio first thing in a morning and headed to Dallas. We met up with my sister and her family (minus her newly married oldest) for lunch at a great BBQ joint. After our delicious meal, Eric and I headed to Dealy Plaza and the the Sixth Floor Museum at the School Book Depository. It was a sobering sight to see where Kennedy was shot and to walk through the museum listening and reading the details surrounding his death. We had enough time to do all of our sightseeing here before heading to the airport to fly back home in the evening. While this was not our most exciting trip, we were very grateful to be able to connect with family and have some time to celebrate our anniversary a little early.

This is how it's done while in TX

smoked brisket...yum

This is my sister and her daughter, Natalie. Natalie and I tend to get comments that we look so much alike. I'll take that as a compliment. :)

You can't see it in this picture, but there are two X marks on the road marking both spots where Kennedy was shot.

The Texas School Book Depository where Lee Harvey Oswald shot Kennedy.

This is the second X marking the fatal shot.

We weren't allowed to take pictures on the 7th floor of the museum, but we went up to the 8th floor, and I took these out of the corner window. You can see a perfect view of the road below (keep in mind the trees were not that big back in 1963.

Texas Trip-Day 2

On day 2 of our trip, we headed out for San Antonio. The forecast was rain for much of our weekend there. We seem to run into this a lot on our trips where one or more days is forecast to rain, BUT the Lord has always been gracious to us in these situations. It barely rained at all during our day in San Antonio!

Before we got to our hotel, we stopped at Mission San Jose, which was a Catholic mission established back in 1720! It was really beautiful and the old architecture was fascinating. After we arrived to our hotel, we were able to walk around, see and tour the Alamo, and experience the Riverwalk. Our hotel was literally across the road from the Alamo, which was very convenient.

Let's take a minute and talk about In-N-Out burger. Eric and I first had In-N-Out when we were in California about 9 years ago, and we loooooved it. We have since talked about the day we can again have the In-N-Out experience, and whatdayaknow...Texas has In-N-Out!!! Oh happy day. So, on our route to San Antonio, we stopped to indulge. It was glorious.

The Alamo

After we toured the Alamo, we headed to the famous Riverwalk.

This is the San Fernando Cathedral. It is one of the oldest cathedrals in the United States, and it is also the home of the burial tomb for Davy Crockett, William B. Travis, and Jim Bowie (all famous leaders who gave their lives in the battle of the Alamo).

Back on the riverwalk, we decided to take a break and sit down for a drink and guacamole.

I have mentioned before how I love taking pictures of food. I love the colors and creativity that food brings...I look at this guacamole, and I think it's pretty. Look at the green, reds, and a little hint of purple. :)

We ended here for dinner later in the evening.

I wanted to get some pictures of the Alamo without people around, so I walked over before we left our hotel the next morning before it was open.

That is our hotel pictured next to the Alamo.
