UPBC-Day 3

This day was hobo breakfast day! If you are wondering what in the world a hobo breakfast is, not to worry, we had no idea either. Apparently, it is a tradition at this camp to take a bag breakfast of a couple pieces of bacon (raw), an egg, and two pieces of bread, and walk to the nearby abandoned train tracks and cook said breakfast with a sterno and a coffee can while sitting on the tracks. You might be thinking what we were thinking when we were told that this was our breakfast activity...whaaaaaat? Apparently, there used to be a "hobo" population in the area, so this is a special tradition of the camp. Well, it was quite the experience. Not all the kids liked their breakfast, but it was a fun thing to experience.

Later in the day, the kids were able to do archery, which is something that Eden has been wanting to try for a long time. She was very excited about this activity. After archery, all the kids went to check out zip lining. I was surprised that both Judah and Eden wanted to try this activity (more surprised by Judah than Eden). Neither of these two are climbers, and there was a long way to climb up to get to the top of the zipline. I was worried that one or both of them would start to climb, and then decide they wanted to come down or think they couldn't do it. It was slow climbing, and both kids hesitated at certain points (or thought they needed help), but they BOTH made it to the top! Yay! They were so proud that they accomplished this task, and they thought it was so fun.

Good morning!

Master chef

The camp also had leather crafts. Eden wanted to make a "coin" purse, so she had some leather cut for that project.

On to archery

Asher is hilarious in these pictures.

Four and five year olds taking selfies...hilarious!

Here are the kids getting zip line instructions.

Is it just me or do they look tired?

Eric and Judah went up together.

He needed a little help at the top, but he made it!

Eden's turn

Getting a little nervous

It's hard to see, but there is a smile on that face.

Having some evening fun at the beach

Every day, we had morning and evening chapel. There was child care provided for the kids during both chapel services. This evening, I went to pick up Asher after chapel, and this is what I found. The workers told me that he colored a page, then asked if he could sit on this chair-apparently, he was asleep in minutes. Poor kid was wiped out.
