New York, New York

Eric and I took a 2 1/2 day trip to New York for our 10 year anniversary! Wow, what a treat. We stayed in Lower Manhattan in the Tribeca neighborhood. Here are some pictures from our first day there. On our first afternoon there, we visited the 9/11 memorial and had a tour. Then, we walked the Brooklyn Bridge. After that, we walked through the financial district and visited Federal Hall. Then we went off to dinner. It was a full and fun day!

The One World Trade Center (also known as Freedom Tower)

The names of every person who died in the terrorist attacks of 9/11 and February 26, 1993 are inscribed in bronze around the twin memorial pools.

They memorial staff place a white rose to commemorate the birthday of each victim.

Todd Beamer's name

This is called the survivor tree because it endured the 9/11 attacks. It was found very damaged at ground zero, was removed, and rehabilitated. The tree was returned to the memorial in 2010. Today, the tree stands as living reminder of resilience, survival, and rebirth.

On to the Brooklyn Bridge. It was packed. There were tons and tons of people! The Brooklyn Bridge is one of the oldest suspension cable bridge in the U.S. It spans the East River, connecting Manhattan and Brooklyn. It was pretty amazing to see a bridge like this and to imagine what it must have taken to build something of this magnitude back in 1883!

Here is a close up of what the cables look like. Pretty amazing.

Hello below!

There were tons of locks on the bridge, too.

More locks...I thought they looked neat.

After the bridge we moved on to the Financial District.

Federal Hall-where George Washington took the oath of office as our first President. This site was also the first home to Congress and the Supreme Court.

Finally, some yummy dinner!

Delicious guacamoles

We ended the evening taking the Staten Island Ferry. I didn't feel well, so I spent most of the time sitting down, but Eric had some neat views while on the ferry.
