Saugatuck 2014-Day 3

Our third day was a non-beach day. We took a Saugatuck Boat Cruise down the Kalamazoo River. It was actually a little chilly on the boat, which we were unprepared for. The water was choppy, and there was steam all along the water because the air was cooler than the water. The boat ride was supposed to go out into Lake Michigan, but it was too choppy, so we made it up to the mouth of the river but did not enter Lake Michigan. After the boat ride, we decided to hike up to Mt. Baldhead since we had time before dinner. It was a hike up 302 steps up to a nice view of the town and the river. Then, it was dinner out and back home to unwind. :)

Breakfast on the deck...yummy strawberries!
Ready to eat

"Hi, Mom!"

Chilly...good thing we had blankies handy. :)
A lady on the boat had an extra jacket and offered it to our kids. :)

Asher likes to snuggle with daddy. How cute!

The fog coming off the water
The mouth of the river

Sand dunes-interesting fact: the trees are not actually growing on top of the sand dunes. The roots have to reach to the ground for nourishment, so the trees are actually growing through the dunes.
We moved down to the inside of the boat where it was a tad warmer.

The Star of Saugatuck

Here we begin our hike. That's a lot of stairs!

We made it!

The top of Mt. Baldhead. This is an old communication device...I think?
