My Birthday at the Zoo

We're going to the zoo, zoo, zoo. What about you, you, you. Well, we decided to visit Lincoln Park Zoo for my birthday this past Saturday. We had wanted to go to the zoo this summer and weekends are filling up, so what better occasion to do a fun outing than my birthday. :) We had never been to Lincoln Park zoo, so that was fun. I have to say, I think it was my favorite zoo. It's smaller than the others we have visited, which means less animals (con) but much more reasonable for walking around with young kids and spectacular views, lots of shade, and lovely scenery (pros). We met my parents there and we had a great time. It was supposed to be a hot day, which it was, but the shade and the breeze really helped make it feel not so bad.

Some of our favorite moments were 1. the polar bear. He was swimming and playing with a ball right by the view window. It was very cool to see him so close. 2. Hearing the (female) lion roar. We heard her roar and it was so loud, we almost thought it was fake. So cool to hear how powerful that can be! and 3. The views-how cool to go to the zoo and have the city skyline around us.

Can you see the animal? It's some kind of cat, but I can't remember what it is.

Lunch...ewwww
This is a red panda. He was cute.

I took quite a few pictures of the giraffes. I think they are one of the most unique looking creature out there (in a good way). There spots are so cool and amazing.

This one was sticking his tongue out quite a bit. So funny.

He's sticking his tongue out at me!

Food for the birds...ewwww...

Meerkats

I also took quite a few pictures of the polar bear. It was so cool to see. My camera was having a hard time focusing through the water while the bear was moving, but I got a couple. :)

Baby rhinos

I love this one of my dad.

Tired girl

Time for ice cream!

For the record, I think camels are super ugly. I took this picture as an example...one of his humps is flopping over. Ewwwwww!

Look how beautiful these stripes are.

He started scratching his back

A small bear (of some kind) having lunch

It must be snack time for the tigers, too.

Carousel ride before we leave

My parents brought over a cake after dinner and surprised me!
