Seattle 2018

Eric and I were able to steal away for 2 1/2 days to Seattle for our anniversary. What a treat! We are so grateful to my parents who offered to take the kids for three days so that we could do this.

We decided to stay on Bainbridge Island (we found a good deal on a place to stay), which is only a 30 minute fairy ride to Seattle. The place we stayed was perfect. It allowed is to get over to Seattle with relative ease (we could walk to the fairy from where we were staying), but allowed us to appreciate the charm and comfort of the Seattle area away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Eric enjoyed his nice quiet walks to get breakfast for us in the morning, and we even went out to a late movie in the small-town movie theater on the island one night.

On our first day there, we spent the day in Seattle, the home of grunge music, Starbucks, and Microsoft. It's always interesting to take in the scenery, style, and people in a city atmosphere. Eric and I noticed a lot of nose rings, crop tops, and colored hair while we were there (also men with rolled pants...is that a thing?). We explored Pike Place Market, walked through Olympic Sculpture Park, visited the Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum, went up the Space Needle, and ended the day with a nice anniversary dinner. It was a full day, and we were tired by the end, but we were glad to see so many great things!
It's hard to see, but we could see Mt. Rainier on our ferry ride over to Seattle in the morning (it looks like clouds in the air, but it's the mountain). It was out all day, and it was so beautiful. We were told that you can only see Mt. Rainier from Seattle only about 50 days out of the year! We were so excited that we had a beautiful day to see such a view.

On our way over to Seattle!

Mountain views

The day started out with a little bit of haze (pictured here) on our way over, but quickly turned into a beautiful clear day, perfect for walking around.

Again, a bit hard to see with the morning haze, but there is Mt. Rainier in the distance. It was more clear on our way back to Bainbridge Island in the evening.

We started with the market. There was so much to see-so many items and colors. This was so fun for me, since I love taking pictures of things like this. How many pictures of the Seattle market can one person take?  Well, you're about to find out.

Dungeness crab was everywhere

We had heard about the flowers in the market, but it was insane. There were SO many flowers everywhere...crazy amounts of flowers. It was so pretty! So, of course, I took a bazillion pictures.

We got a tip from the lady we were renting our place from that we needed to get some warm donuts from this place. She was right on.

You could see the donuts being fried right where you order them.

Fresh hot donuts...yum yum.

The amounts of fresh food was amazing.

I thought this was a creative way to display lights...

You guys.....the gum wall. I had no idea. If you don't know what this is, well, it's exactly what it sounds like...a wall covered in people's chewed gum. It's this strange combination of totally gross, but unique, artsy, and interesting as well. I guess it adds to the unique and creative vibe of Seattle. It actually looks like a big piece of artwork, but if you think about it too much, you remember how disgusting it is. A couple of interesting facts: the gum wall has been gathering gum since the early 1990's (although it has been cleaned since them), and the gum wall is about 50 feet long! So gross...and cool. Yet again, a great photo op.

Oh yes, back to beautiful and colorful food.

We grabbed some lunch at Beecher's, home of the world's best mac n' cheese.
