Florida Day 4

Day 4 was Pontoon day. We had wanted to do one special activity all together as a family, so we decided on taking a pontoon tour boat ride. The boat ride was in the Tarpon Bay at the Ding Darling Wildlife Reserve. It was a low-key event, but very informative. Before the boat ride, we were able to touch some sea creatures that were set aside for us to look at and learn about. As previously mentioned, sea creatures are not my thing, but Eden thought it was neat to look at them and touch them. Judah takes after his mama and wanted nothing to do with the touching slimy creatures part, however, he thought it was neat to hold a HUGE turtle shell that once belonged to a full grown turtle (I can't remember what kind off-hand).

During our ride, we were able to observe all different kinds of birds in their natural habitat. It was cool to hear all about them and their behaviors. I will share with you one fun fact that we learned about dolphins. Dolphins are mammals, which means that need air to breath so they need to come up to the surface for air. So, how do they sleep in the water? Well, I'm so glad you asked. :) Apparently, one hemisphere of their brain turns off to "sleep" and the other half stays awake to periodically bring the dolphin up for air. Then, the other half of the brain takes it's turn. This also allows dolphins to monitor their environment while they "sleep",allowing them to watch out for danger. Craaaazy, right? I was so blown away by that! God's creation is simply amazing.

It's alive! :)

Well, hello Mr. Crab...look at those pinchers.

Do you see him?

Peek-a-boo

I can't remember what this is, although I do know that it's not a sting ray. Now, do you want to bump into one of these while swimming? I don't think so. :)

Some bird nest-the daddy had just brought back food. I can't remember the name of these specific birds, but we were told once they find a nest, they will come back to that spot for the rest of their lives.

It's amazing how they hover over the water looking to catch a fish.
