Judah's Prayer

The day after Resurrection Sunday, Judah and I were reading the Passover story from his Bible (he picked the story). The day before at church, Judah was able to sit in the church service with us, and he witnessed us taking communion. This was a great discussion point for us with Judah, since he was not able to take the "bread and wine", but Eric and I did. I explained to him what the bread and the wine symbolize (a concept that he was already familiar with), and why taking these elements is only for people in God's family. So, we continued to talk about it the next day when he picked the Passover and crucifixion story for me to read to him.

He was able to verbalize what we had talked about the day before in church. Then, Judah told me that he wanted to be part of God's family, too. I asked him if he knew what that meant, and he said, "God takes my sins away". I talked with him more about what it means to be a part of God's family. I reiterated that it not only means you believe what God says, but also that God is in charge of your life and you DO what God says. I talked to Judah about how everyone gets to make their own choice (a concept we have talked about many times). Judah said he understood, and he wanted to be a part of God's family. So, Judah prayed for God to take his sins away, and I led him in a more detailed prayer as well.

Of course, we are thrilled that Judah has made a decision to follow Jesus! My prayer for him is that this prayer is genuine, and that Judah grows in his knowledge, understanding, and love for the Lord. We pray that his faith blossoms, and that he learns what it means to truly follow Jesus.

This was the story we were reading
