Washington DC-Day 4

I've been having computer issues, so getting pictures up on the blog has taken longer than anticipated. Anyway, this was our last full day in DC, and we made the most of it! We started off viewing the White House, then we ubered it to Arlington National Cemetery, where we spent time walking around and looking at the sights. After that, we saw the MLK Memorial, and then headed to the Jefferson Memorial. We ended our day at the Air and Space Museum and ate dinner at Ted's Bulletin, which was our favorite restaurant experience while in DC!

Before heading to see the White House, we stopped at the White House Visitor Center. You could get a virtual tour on this screen, and see all the rooms in the White House. The kids thought this was pretty cool, and since we were denied on our application to actually tour the White House, this was the next best thing.

"Look, Mom, we are in front of the White House!"

One of the things that surprised me was how huge the cemetery was. I knew there were lots of graves, but it was as far as the eye could see in all directions, no matter how far we walked (or so it seemed). It was very overwhelming. Each time we passed a field, there would be another and then another...on and on it went. This was a sobering sight.

Jacqueline Kennedy's grave.

Saw this and had to take a picture. Turns out, this grave belongs to a Colonel who fought in the Vietnam War.
We visited the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and saw the changing of the guard. It was cool to see this whole process, and the honor that these men give to those who have given their lives for their country.

Time for a snack break after all this walking!

I love that Judah is saluting in the background

It's hard to see, but that's the Pentagon in the background

The view from up top was beautiful

After we got back for the evening, we asked Judah if there was anything that he wanted to do that we hadn't done yet. He said that he really wanted to see the Lincoln Memorial lit up at night. So, Eric decided to take Judah for a special evening out, and I stayed home while the other two went to bed. I think this was a real highlight for Eric and Judah. They walked to the Capitol, and then took an Uber to the Lincoln Memorial where they hung out and enjoyed the view before walking on to the Washington Monument. They got back well past bedtime, but they were very glad that they had spent our last night in DC making some great memories.
